2008 Bozeman Ice Festival

Sarah and Lilla raring to go!

Sarah and Lilla raring to go!

Just back from a super time in Hylite Canyon for the second year in a row. I was joined by many strong women this year including the two in the photo!  We worked our butts off from 7am to 4:30 pm running to find ice climbs in three different sectors of the canyon. A lot of work! Lilla and I were rewarded by winning the women’s division of the Invitational Ice Breaker. There is some luck involved in gaining this award based on how easily you stumble upon the routes, what shape they are in, who else is around and how many other teams climb the route… so its not all based on skill or fitness.

There were 12 teams (8 male and 4 female) We all climbed between 6-14 pitches during the comp.

On Friday we had a great day working in the women’s clinic that hosts over 50 women at one time ice climbing in Hylite canyon! Amy Bullard works hard to pull together this event that she thinks is the largest women’s climbing clinic in North America. All in all a super time and I will return again. Many volunteers make this festival possible. WOW!
